AF Stat™ Call to Action

The AF Stat Call to Action outlines major barriers to optimal atrial fibrillation (AFib) diagnosis and management and identifies priority actions needed to improve patient care and outcomes. The report serves as the first comprehensive roadmap featuring strategies to lessen the burden of AFib on patients and the healthcare system. Specifically, the AF Stat Call to Action recommendations focus in four priority action areas:

  • Policy and Advocacy – Educate and inform key stakeholders about the health risks associated with AFib and the importance of comprehensive management.
  • Education – Make tools available for all AFib stakeholders to heighten awareness of the disease and facilitate greater understanding about its risks and the need for comprehensive early management.
  • Management – Achieve accurate diagnosis and comprehensive management across medical practices and between medical specialties.
  • Quality – Define best practices in AFib management, align clinical practice guidelines and implement performance measures to improve patient outcomes.

The AF Stat Call to Action includes the perspectives of 24 organizations that participated in a working group for AF Stat. This collaboration representing the advocacy, medical, government, professional, aging, caregiver, employer, payer and cardiovascular sectors is focused on elevating AFib on the public health agenda.

The significance of AFib is under-recognized by patients and healthcare providers. More effort needs to be placed on helping patients understand their condition and make decisions. At the same time healthcare providers need to have the right tools to better inform and educate their patients about AFib.
