AFib Stories

AFib is more than just statistics about risks and costs. It is about people and the impact this chronic disease can have on all aspects of their lives.

While some patients with AFib may be asymptomatic, others can be debilitated by the side effects and consequences of this condition. AFib symptoms can occur suddenly, be painful and frightening (such as palpitations, chest pain, dyspnea, fatigue and/or lightheadedness).22 AFib is also associated with functional limitations and an impaired quality of life on many levels – physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally. In fact, studies show that living with AFib is harder on patients than living with many other cardiovascular diseases.22

Living with AFib is a challenge that few may understand unless they have experienced it. The following profiles will demonstrate the ways that the disease causes people to miss out on key life experiences. From absences on family holidays to early retirement to the stress of frequent hospitalizations, AFib patients share their story below.
