AFib Educator 2.0 App and Desktop Widget
The recently enhanced AFib Educator 2.0, a free app available on the iPhone and Android™ platforms and desktop widget, builds on the elements
of the first generation AFib Educator 1.1 while incorporating additional
advancements that visually demonstrate the symptoms, risks and management strategies
of atrial fibrillation (AFib).
The updated app is a dynamic, interactive resource designed to help health care
providers better educate and explain the complexities of AFib to their patients.
The app visually demonstrates the importance of the management strategies defined
in the AHA/ACC/HRS AFib clinical treatment guidelines: rate control, rhythm control,
and stroke prevention.13
Since the original version was released in 2010, the AFib Educator has been
downloaded more than 13,000 times, and is recognized as an outstanding medical tool
by members of professional medical societies and continues to receive positive reviews.

- AFib management animations: demonstrates the effects of different
management strategies for a heart in AFib, including:13
- Rate control
- Rhythm control
- AFib risk animations:
- Stroke risk animation: shows an AFib-related stroke to illustrate
that a blood clot can travel from the heart to the brain as a result of AFib40
- Remodeling process animation: depicts the remodeling process,
which is a result of untreated AFib that affects the shape and size of the heart41

- Detailed animated, color diagrams of the heart under normal rhythm and during AFib
- Fluoroscopy (x-ray) images of the heart in and out of rhythm, featuring the heart's
electrical impulse
- EKG readings with normal heart rate and with AFib
- Facts about the signs, symptoms, prevalence and risks of AFib can be shared through
the "E-mail a Friend" feature
- Links to resources where patients can learn more about AFib
The app is available for iPhone and can be downloaded from the Apple App
StoreSM online store. The app is now also available for Android platforms and can be downloaded from the Android Market.
